Week 8 Eng 333

Presentation Overview
We, as a group, will explain how to use webs.com. We created a website about creating a website.  Using this site will help future students gain a more creative outlook on their course project assignment and they will also be able to not just add text, but also pictures, audio, and video.
The assignment originally was for us to create a website about our major and utilizing it so that we could bring people to want to become whatever our major might be.  We had the options of adding special effects to dress up our presentation sites, but the question was how do we do so? That is what our website is all about.
1.       The first step will be to add text to the different topics seeming necessary for the website at hand.
2.     What topics should you use for the ‘major’ website assigned in English 333
3.     How to add pictures to match up with the text you have already put in.
4.     Using videos to give examples of the topic for each page.
5.     Adding audio to the page; this could be used for music or a voice recording directing the web users on your page.
All of these steps will be explained thoroughly on their own unique pages. We will make each page well represented for each topic; giving many examples. We will also be able to give links for examples of how to add in such pictures, audio, and video.  Our group will have an array of visual aids through our website, making it super easy for future students to make really good presentations with the necessary instructions.  We will also show the professor other links to free websites that can help the students create websites that are much cleaner and professional than webs.com.
All of this should be able to run at least 12 minutes because there is a lot of different topics to go through in order to thoroughly go through the presentation and make it understandable to future audiences.

Week 7-English 333

Should sex education be taught in schools?
As teenagers, many are taught that abstinence is the only way to prevent stds and pregnancy.   .  Schools and organizations rarely let teenagers know what to do if they choose to have sex, or what information is out there to find out safe ways to have sex.  Pretending like sex does not exist for minors is absurd, because people are always talking about so-and-so getting knocked up.  Talking and being open about sex with teenagers is actually really good because they know they have an adult to talk to if they have any questions.  As long as they are knowledgeable, they will have more of a chance of having safe sex.  Every teenager gets curious; their bodies are going through changes and they want to experiment.  The best way for a kid to ‘experiment’ with their bodies is through education and knowledge that adults can give them—not the internet or other kids who have heard rumors.  A teenage girl or boy who gets into a situation where she or he wants to engage in a sexual activity, needs to know how to do it safely, whether through birth control, condoms, or dental dams. This should definitely be saved for high school students, because of age appropriateness. Sex is a part of life and when teenagers are going through that rebellious stage, they are going to want to do everything their parents tell them not too.  They do not want to be told what they can and cannot do with their bodies, so we might as well provide them with the educational tools to be safe about it.  I am not saying to go out and pass around free condoms and birth control for all, but to give them the mental security that they are not going to make a mistake that could potentially change their lives forever when they are at a crucial young age themselves.

Rhetorical Situation to above editorial:

The reason I chose sex education in schools is because it seems very important in today’s society.  I know that at my high school, we were not taught how to have safe sex and rumors spread around that we did not know if they were true or not about sex.  Some people did not want to go through the embarrassment of buying condoms, while others would put on two for the extra coverage.  What those kids did not know is that friction can cause a tear in two rubber condoms and cause the exact opposite effect of what they were looking for.  So many girls that I went to high school with got pregnant before they graduated and had to drop out to take care of their babies. Unfortunately, in many of these cases the dads did not stick around.  When a couple is that young, it does not always mean they are going to be together forever, so single parents become more popular.  I do think that this should only be open to high school students because younger kids do not need to be exposed to this topic yet—they are not as mentally developed.  Teenagers, for the most part, are always going to think they are invincible and that this will never happen to them and when it does they wish they could have prevented it—in some cases.  That is why I feel kids should be educated on safe sex, and not just abstinence only sex education.

Week 6-English 333

Introduction:
I am reporting the progress of my English 333 group project on creating a website on how to make a website during the summer semester of 2011. We all agreed that the website was a project that we were assigned that was poorly designed for the students to create. We also will look into other computer/internet options for free website designing software.
Facts and Discussion:
Our first group discussion was on Skype, in which we all were able to speak together. Originally, we discussed creating a resume/cover letter with several examples as our group project.  After much deliberation and conversing with our English 333 professor, Mr. Cruthirds, we found that our project would be better if it was based on something we all had issues with.  As we began to discuss what we had problems with, we came to a common ground that the website was the most troublesome project we had done thus far.  The directions were not clear to successfully finish our project and the website was not set out well enough for us to understand how to add effects and content the way we wanted too. Our project topic changed to creating a website that teaches how to make a website, especially for this course project to help future students who take this class. We will split up topics for each person to look up and start to create a page with after we discuss what all we want to include and how we will go about everything. We will also look into other free websites that help create websites to see if there are better ones out there that can be more instructive for students in this class who have never built a website. It is going to be difficult to do this project because we will not actually be able to meet in person—only via Skype and other internet means.
Conclusions:
At this time, no work has been started on our project—as far as I know. Everyone’s schedule has been so busy that I have not heard from any of my group members. Next week I will contact the group members myself and we can get a start on our project so we are not behind and can hopefully complete the project early so that we can gain any critiques are professor might have before our actual turn in date. Group dynamics are really important, so we shall step up and take charge to make sure we are communicating and finishing our project efficiently.
Recommendations:
We have not ran into any major issues during this project yet. We may in the next week or so, in which case we will promptly inform our professor.
